I have every reason to believe this call center isn’t. The real company even has a notice on its web site saying it is aware that scammers are using its name. Here I am messing with the scammers, not the real company.

I’ve done this quite a few times to the aforementioned robocall scam workers, and they usually at least try to call my bank first before asking for the 800 number on the back of the card. The first part of the fake card number I give them (5117 12xx) is the BIN, which in this case tells them it’s a Mastercard from a specific bank. The last digit in the card number is a checksum — Google ‘Luhn algorithm’. The rest of the card number can be anything, as long as the checksum is correct.

3:58 — He comes back. He and a coworker of his aren’t very happy with me
